Meet us at 279 Central Avenue -(The Old St. Patricks Church-school)

Welcome to “Drawing Up Central,” a sidewalk chalk art contest. Thank you for participating! Please read and acknowledge your willingness to adhere to the rules of the contest.

  • Check-in and day-of registration begin's at 9:00 am on May 13th, 2017. Be there on time. Check out CentralBID.com in case of bad weather (rain isn't good for chalk events if it rains refunds will be given)

  • When you arrive, please check in at the check-in table, located at 279-283 Central Ave, in front of the former St. Patrick’s School. Once you’ve signed in, please proceed to choose one of the numbered squares between N. Lake and Quail Street. Then return to the registration table to record your square number with contest officials.

  • Contestants can begin drawing at 9:30 am.

  • Competition area will extend along the north side of Central Ave, with competition areas clearly marked between North Lake and Quail.

  • The contest is a 'dry sidewalk and sunshine event.'

  • Only one approved sidewalk square is allowed per person/group. Contestants must confine their work to one sidewalk square.

  • Where possible, contestants will be given preference when selecting their sidewalk square. Space is limited, so arrive early to choose your spot.

  • Chalk will be provided at the check-in table. Only the chalk provided will be allowed in the competition. Participants are able to keep leftover chalk.

  • Subject matter must be appropriate for all ages and audiences. No profanity. No nudity. No election messages. Contest officials may remove any artwork they deem inappropriate.

  • Group entries are welcome, please choose one name for registration. If an adult participates in creating an entry’s art, it will be judged in the adult category.

  • Make sure to bring sunscreen, knee pads or a pillow (sidewalks are really hard), and/or plastic to cover your square if necessary.

  • Judging will begin at 1:00 pm. Judges include area youth, business owners, and community leaders. Judges will select winners in the Adult and Youth categories.

  • Prizes will be awarded in the Adult and Youth category. One grand prize award of $500 will be awarded to the winner in the Adult Category. Gift certificates and other prizes & merchandise will be awarded to the winner in the Youth category. there are runners up prizes as well.

  • Please keep in mind that pedestrians do have the right of way. You may erect cones around your work to help cordon off the area. There’s more than enough room around each assigned square for pedestrians to progress, but please be courteous as you work, and don’t block the sidewalk.

  • For your own safety, please also stay out of the roadway and the parking lane when you work. Please use only the crosswalk when crossing Central Ave.

  • If you complete your work prior to 1 pm when judges review your work, you are encouraged to stay at your square in order to ensure that the integrity of your artwork is protected. If you leave your work, we cannot guarantee that your artwork will remain protected.

  • Contest officials will patrol the contest area regularly throughout the day to answer questions and provide assistance.

  • The winner will be announced no later than 2pm. Winner must be present to win.

  • Rules are subject to change and no prizes will be awarded for partial or incomplete artwork in the event of bad weather
